From the humble beginnings in 1999 to the grand stages of the Asian Games.
The International Emei Wushu Festival of Sichuan stands as one of the most prestigious global gatherings celebrating the art and sport of wushu. Held from August 28–30, 2007, in the culturally rich city of Emeishan, the festival brought together top martial artists from across the world, showcasing both traditional and modern aspects of Chinese martial arts.
India's participation in this international event marked a significant step forward during a time when wushu was still developing in the country. Under the leadership of Gajanand Rajput, who served as the team leader, the Indian contingent made its presence felt on the global stage. His dedication and vision played a crucial role in taking the team to China and representing India at a time when international exposure in wushu was limited.
A key figure behind the team's performance was coach Raju Newar, whose training and guidance helped shape the athletes' skills and competitive mindset. Competing in the Men's 60kg Sanda category, Uttam Narzary Koch delivered an impressive performance, earning a bronze medal for India. This participation and success at the 2007 Emei Wushu Festival symbolize an important chapter in India's martial arts journey—driven by passionate leadership, dedicated coaching, and determined athletes who laid the foundation for the sport's future growth in the country.
