The 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championships - 2008

The International Wushu Federation organized its 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championships at Shiyan, China from October 28 to November 2, 2008.In this grand event about 69 countries, some political leaders, local government officers and prominent Wushu masters took part. A total of 2060 athletes played their traditional Wushu skills in different categories.

Dr. Jacques Rogge, the IOC President sent a congratulatory message to the Championships. On behalf of the Olympic Movement, he extended his greetings and best wishes to all the participants. He expressed that these championships would provide a great opportunity for the public to witness great performances by all these athletes who have incredible ability and talent. He wished the organizers of the 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championships every success and good luck to all the competitors.

Mr. Liu Peng, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Mr. Li Hongzhong, Governor of Hubei Province, Mr. Yu Zaiqing, IWUF President and IOC Vice President and many other high ranking officials from the local governments attended the opening ceremony.

The first time Indian Team participated in the 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championship and made the history. The team was lead by Gajanand Rajput,, Secretary General. He had an opportunity to attend the Technical Conference of the 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championships and met the IWUF Secretary General Mr.Wang Xiaolin. He expressed his best wishes and promised to support all his level best to promote the traditional martial arts in India. He also awarded a momorial Award to Gajanand Rajput and Uttam Narzary Koch for their active and Participation.

During this grand event Indian Team Leader Gajanand Rajput had an opportunity to meet, learn and discuss about Wudang Wushu culture. Sifu You xiaonda bless him and also invited him to his Wudang Wushu School to study wudang wushu culture.

A trip to the famous Mount Wudang, the birth place of the Wudang Wushu and Taoist Shrine was organized during the Championships. The participants had the opportunity to experience the charm of Wudang Wushu and enjoy the magnificent view of the natural beauty of Mount Wudang. The competition lasted for three days. The competitors took part in the competitions of barehanded, apparatus, dual events and group events. 307 athletes won the first prize.
